Today I tried to insert a widget on the sidebar. I say ‘tried’, because after going back and forth a hundred times, I still couldn’t get it. I did manage to post the message ‘get cool widgets at Widgetbox’, but my cool widget never showed.
What I thought I was supposed to do was to get the widget html code on the widget website and insert it in one of the ‘text’ boxes we find when we click on ‘widgets’ here (after clicking on Presentation). When I checked ‘View Site’, the widget wasn’t there…
At first I thought I hadn’t copied the right code (there are two options) or the code right, though I was pretty sure I had highlighted the whole thing. But after trying over and over, the code was still appearing on the ‘widget’ box, but the widget itself was nowhere to be found on the blog.
I’ll have to get back to that later, as I’m leaving for a class… I’ll keep you posted. Wish I could get the widget posted!

Hi Ana, thanks for stopping by!
It’s kind of annoying sometimes, isn’t it, when you want to get things done and you spend hours struggling with something that should (and probably is) easy to add!
But that’s part of the fun, really. And of course it’s wonderful to know that we can always ‘e-shout’ and pick other people’s brains…
Um abraço!

Dear Monica,
Edublogs works a bit differently in terms of widgets. When you want to add a Widgetbox widget to your sidebar, you shouldn’t copy the whole code but only the Panel ID part of the code. Apparently, the reason is the templates don’t work well with Java Script. On week 4, we are going to deal with widgets in detail. In the meantime, feel free to post a message to our YG if you need further help.
By the way, I love the concept behind your blog… exploring new forms and the graphics you use. Great style! Hugs…

Hi Carla, thanks for visiting and posting your comment!
I thought about posting a message to the group, but first I wanted to enjoy the challenge and see if I can figure it all out…
I also read about the syllabus for week 4 and decided to wait a little bit before introducing yet another subject in YG.
Um abraço!

Hi Monica, love your blog objective and graphics too. “Houston, we have a problem” was hilarious as well. Thanks for making me smile.
This is a tutorial video I found in Youtube. I bet it has instructions for setting the widget: http://tinyurl.com/ysalmy
If I remember well and depending on your template/theme (some allow certain things, others don´t), you have to go to “presentation” and then “widget”, click on one box that says “text” in the “available widgets” section at the bottom and drag it to the column that says “sidebar”. Click in the document graphic and add title and copy html for the widget. Don´t forget to “save” changes. I hope it works. If it doesn´t, well, let´s wait until week 4.
Warm regards from cool Caracas,
Berta

Hi Berta, thanks for the link, I’ll have a look at it. Funny that what you suggested is exactly what I tried over and over…
But I like the challenge, so I’ll keep on trying!
Guess I’ll wait for week 4; or perhaps I’ll e-shout to WordPress experts in our group if I get to curious.
Thanks for visiting and commenting!
Um abraço from rainy Belo Horizonte
